Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics? Pharmacokinetics describes what the body does to a drug — absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). Pharmacodynamics describes what a drug does to the body — mechanisms of action, dose-response relationships, and receptor interactions.
What is bioavailability? Bioavailability is the fraction of an administered dose that reaches systemic circulation unchanged. Oral bioavailability is reduced by first-pass metabolism. IV administration gives 100% bioavailability by definition.
What is the significance of Schedule H drugs in India? Schedule H drugs require a prescription from a registered medical practitioner. They cannot be sold over the counter. This category includes antibiotics, steroids, and controlled substances. Schedule H1 is a subset with stricter restrictions.
